X-Ray Girl | Ability to see through people

Russian X-ray girl thrills Japanese scientists with her remarkable gift!

British and Japanese scientists acknowledged that the girl possesses an astounding ability to see through people.

A 17-year-old Russian girl, Natasha Demkina, from the city of Saransk, Russia has become known for her astounding X-ray ability to see people through and diagnose diseases. Scientists became interested in the Russian girl's phenomenon: Natasha Demkina was invited to come to London and New York for scientific experiments. British researchers unanimously acknowledged Natasha's remarkable gift, whereas American scientists hesitated to come to such a conclusion. They did not like that fact that the girl successfully diagnosed diseases with only four patients out of seven. Natasha Demkina has recently passed a similar test in Tokyo, where Japanese scientists confirmed the gift of the Russian X-ray girl.

”It takes me too much time to explain and specify everything that I can see. Sometimes I can see diseases at their early stages, when neither patients nor their doctors have any slightest suspicions about them. That is why we had problems with American scientists,” Natasha says.

During the test in Japan, Natasha was able to see that one of the patients had a prosthetic knee. Another patient had asymmetrically placed internal organs. Natasha easily diagnosed early stages of pregnancy and even a pathology of the fetus with a female patient. She diagnosed a rare undulating spinal curvature with a male patient. When Japanese doctors compared Natasha's drawing of the curvature with the X-ray photograph, they could see that the photo and the drawing were absolutely identical. When Natasha was finished with her seven patients, Japanese doctors could not help bursting into applause. However, it was only the first stage of the trial.

Natasha Demkina was offered to diagnose the disease of an old rottweiler. The girl was afraid to approach the unmuzzled animal, but the doctor told her that she had to look at the dog's paws. Five minutes later the girl pointed at the animal's right back leg, in which she saw a prosthetic device.

The Japanese scientists did not believe the girl, when she told them that she could also see diseases on people's photographs. When she was presented a small, passport-sized photo of a person, she quickly diagnosed liver cancer with the person on the picture

A Story With A Moral: Why Should I Marry You?

Once there was a very handsome, pious, well educated young man, whose parents emphasised for him to get married. They had seen so many marriage proposals, and he had turned them all down. The parents thought it was becoming a little ridiculous or suspected that he may have someone else in mind. However every time the parents left the girls house, the young man would always say she’s not the one! The young man only wanted a girl who was religious and practising, however one evening his mother arranged for him, to meet a girl, who was religious, and practising. On that evening, the young men, and the girl, were left to talk, and ask each other question. (As one would expect).

The young man, being a gentleman that he was allowed, the lady to ask first. The young girl asked the young man so many questions, she asked about his life, his education, his friends, his family, his habits, his hobbies, his lifestyle, his enjoyment, his pastime, his experiences, his shoe size, etc. The young man replied to all of her questions, without tiring, and politely, with a smile the young girl took up nearly all of the time, over an hour, and felt bad, and asked the young man do you have any questions? The young man said, “Its ok. I only have 3 questions.” The young girl thought, “Wow, ONLY 3 questions okay.”

The young man’s 1st question was,

Q1: “Who do you love the most in the world, someone whose love nothing would ever overcome?”

A1: She said; “this is an easy question, my mother.” he smiled

Q2: “you said that you read a lot of Qur’an, could you tell me which surahs you know the meaning of?”

A2: Hearing this she went red and embarrassed and said: “I do not know the meaning of any yet, but I am hoping to soon Insha’Allah I’ve just been a bit busy.”

Q3: “I have been approached for my hand in marriage, by girls that are a lot prettier than you why should I marry you?”

A3: Hearing this young girl was outraged, she stormed off to her parents with fury, and said “I do not want to marry this man he is insulting my beauty, and intelligence.”

The young man and his parents were once again, left without an agreement of marriage. This time, the young man’s parents were really angry, and said “what did you do to anger that girl, the family were so nice, and pleasant, and they were religious like you wanted. What did you ask the girl?? Tell us!” The young man said, “1st I asked her, who do you love the most? She said her mother.” the parents said: “so, what is wrong with that?” The young man said: “no one, is Muslim, until he loves Allah, and his Messenger (SAW) more than anyone else in the world’. If a woman loves Allah and Rasulullah (SAW) more than anyone, she will love me and respect me, and stay faithful to me, because of that love, and fear for Allah. And we can share this love, because this love is greater than lust for beauty.”

The young man said: “the 2nd question I asked, you read a lot of Qur’an, can you tell me the meaning of any surah?” And she said no, because I haven’t had time yet. so I thought of that hadith ‘ALL humans, are dead except for those who have knowledge’ She has lived 20 years and not found ANY time, to seek knowledge, why would I marry a woman, who does not know her rights, and responsibilities, and what will she teach my children, except how to be negligent, because the woman IS the madressa (school) and the best of teachers. And a woman, who has no time for Allah, will not have time for her husband.”

“The 3rd question I asked her was that a lot of girls, prettier than her, had approached me for marriage, why should I choose you? That is why she stormed off, getting angry.” The young man’s parents said: “that is a horrible thing to say, why you would do such a thing? we are going back there to apologies.” The young man said: “I said this on purpose, to test whether she could control her anger. Rasulullah (SAW) said ‘do not get angry, do not get angry, do not get angry’ when asked how to become pious; because anger is from Shaytaan. If a woman cannot control her anger with a stranger she has just met, do you think she will be able to control it with her husband?”

The Moral:

• Knowledge, not only out looking- Beauty.

• Practice, not preaching/recitation only (millions of reciters are there). •

Forgiveness, not Anger.

• Spiritual love, not Lust.

• Compromise!

One should look for a person who:

• Has love for Allah and Rasulullah (SAW).

• Has knowledge of the deen, and can act upon it.

• Can control their anger

• Willing to compromise.

It goes both ways, WOMEN SEEKING A MAN, SHOULD LOOK FOR THE SAME THINGS.

Ayesha (RA) reports: “one day I was on a camel which was somewhat difficult to control and the Rasulullah (SAW) remarked “you must be compassionate, whenever there is compassion in something it adorns it, and when it is removed from something it disgraces it.”

What are the 5 most influential statistics papers of 2000-2010?

A few folks here at Hopkins were just reading the comments of our post on  awesome young/senior statisticians. It was cool to see the diversity of opinions and all the impressive people working in our field. We realized that another question we didn't have a great answer to was:
What are the 5 most influential statistics papers of the aughts (2000-2010)?
Now that the auggies or aughts or whatever are a few years behind us, we have the benefit of a little hindsight and can get a reasonable measure of retrospective impact.
Since this is a pretty broad question I'd thought I'd lay down some generic ground rules for nominations:
  1. Papers must have been published in 2000-2010.
  2. Papers must primarily report a statistical method or analysis (the impact shouldn't be only because of the scientific result).
  3. Papers may be published in either statistical or applied journals.
For extra credit, along with your list give your definition of impact. Mine would be something like:
  • Has been cited at a high rate in scientific papers (in other words, it is used by science, not just cited by statisticians trying to beat it)
  • Has corresponding software that has been used
  • Made simpler/changed the way we did a specific type of analysis
I don't have my list yet (I know, a cop-out) but I'm working on it.

About this Cruise Ship
Built in 2007, the 50-passenger Arethusa, owned and operated by Grand Circle Cruise Line, brings their popular river cruise model to the Mediterranean. Like GC's river trips, much of what makes the Arethusa experience special is the ship's two English-speaking Program Directors—experts in regional history, culture, and art—each of whom leads a group of no more than 25 travelers for the duration of the cruise. Despite its size, the Arethusa offers most of the amenities you'd expect: a topside Sun Deck, a lounge and bar area, and a dining room with panoramic ocean views. The 26 cabins range from 150 to 170 square feet and all have flat-screen TVs, AC, and private bathrooms. Upper deck cabins have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and private balconies. Design-wise, the lack of an elevator is the only conspicuous omission, and may pose a problem for those with mobility issues, though the Arethusa has just three decks. Featured itineraries include two-week tours of the Greek Isles (plus Istanbul) and "Hidden Gems" of the Dalmatian coast.

EXAM TIPS YOU MAY NOT HAVE TRIED

EXAM TIPS YOU MAY NOT HAVE TRIED

When it comes to studying for exams, we're used to asking for tips and advice – from parents, friends, maybe even strangers online. But you know what? Studying is not one-size-fits-all - it's down to personal preference, and someone else’s exam tips might not work for you. Here are a few exam tips you may not have tried on for size yet:
Flash those flashcards: Prior to taking an exam, write down everything you remember about the subject onto flashcards. How much you know and what you don’t might surprise you. Spot any gaps in your knowledge? Head back to the textbook for a refresher, then try those sections again.
Write down the formulas first: As soon as writing time commences in your exam, write down all the relevant formulas, equations or theories - they’ll be fresh in your memory and will give you something solid to work with later in the exam if you need.
Draw me a picture: Draw simple diagrams of your revision topics, as though you were explaining them to someone who has never studied the subject before. This breaks the topic down to its basic elements, gets you to summarise it, and stores the information visually - three paths to recalling the information in an exam.
Sleep on it: Sleep gives your brain a chance to process everything it has had to take in during the course of the day. If you don't get enough good quality sleep, you make it that much harder for your brain to store the information you'll need to recall during the exam, so no all-nighters, especially the night before the big day.
Colour me happy: Take your notes using colourful pens, and highlight using different colours. This will help your memory to associate that topic with those colours, and help you to visualise them during the exam. It also breaks up your revision into more manageable sections - it can be hard for your mind to concentrate on page after page of the same colour text.
Don't distract me: If you don't have the will power on your own, there are now blocker applications that will stop you checking out distracting sites when you're supposed to be studying. That hilarious cat video on YouTube will still be there when the exam's over - focus now, fun later.
Study to learn, not to pass: The exam is important, but it's more important to really learn this material so you can apply it in a real-world setting after graduation. You’ve chosen to do this course for a reason - remember the bigger picture here.
Study in a group: There’s nothing like teaching others to reinforce knowledge in your own head. Take turns presenting the information to the group – you may be surprised how different perspectives bring out revision areas you hadn’t considered.
Try these tips out - they may not fit everyone, but if they help you pass your exam, you're welcome!
